Concord Reads: NH Fish & Game - The State's Role in Threatened and Endangered Wildlife Conservation In-Person
As part of this year's Concord Reads programming, Josh Megyesy, a biologist for NH Fish and Game's Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program, will discuss his work with at-risk turtles in NH. A video recording will be available at a later date.
Join Josh Megyesy, wildlife biologist with NH Fish & Game's Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program, for a discussion about the state's role in threatened and endangered wildlife conservation and what a wildlife biologist actually does. Josh's talk will focus on the work he does for at-risk turtle populations in NH, including Blanding's, wood, spotted, and eastern box turtles. His focus will be on turtle monitoring protocols, regional planning, funding, and how is ties into the state's Wildlife Action Plan (WAP). Josh will also discuss the threats to turtles, the work being done to address those threats, and how the public and private landowners can play a critical role in that process. There will also be plenty of fun turtle biology and ecology facts with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
Josh Megyesy is a wildlife biologist with the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department's Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program where he has served since 2014. His expertise is in turtle ecology and has spent the better part of his career on state threatened and endangered turtle monitoring and conservation. Josh works with partner state and federal agencies, private landowners, municipalities, and other land trusts and NGOs to guide conservation practices for rare turtles and other associated species of wildlife. He also serves on regional working groups comprised of state biologists and academics to develop Best Management Practices and standardized monitoring protocols. Josh has worked alongside other nongame biologists on the New England cottontail, Karner blue butterfly, piping plover, and other reptile and amphibian projects. Outside of work, Josh serves on his local town Conservation Commission and is a New Hampshire Turtle Rescue board member.
